ALT Advisory is an organisation providing diversified, rights-based advisory services to implement social change by a collective of public interest lawyers, researchers, strategists, communicators, and technologists.

We have developed ai.altadvisory.africa a public access resource on AI focused on the human rights implications and the governance thereof. ALT AI is a research series focused on safeguarding fundamental rights in relation to artificial intelligence, particularly in African contexts. It comprises a series of research outputs on AI governance in Africa, an overview of resources and guidelines for AI impact assessments, and an assessment of safeguards in data protection law for the use of AI. We have also developed dataprotection.africa another open access resource mapping the state of data protection legislation in Africa, and analysing the substance of these laws. We have contributed to the AI Readiness Index developed by Oxford AI, providing expertise on Africa, and advised several clients on AI related issues such as the impacts on media freedom, providing training on AI and human rights, etc.
