
Jenny is a consultant, an educator and a researcher whose work focuses on creativity, cultural policy and urban transformation in African contexts. She is an expert in and advises on the topic of the urban cultural economy, with a practice that lies at the crossroads of academic, policy and artistic circles. She has a strong knowledge of creative work, management practices and processes, as well as cultural marketing, entrepreneurship and governance in relation to urban creativity. Her previous academic roles included Associate Dean for Employability, Engagement and Enterprise in the School of Communication and Creativity, and Head of the Department of Sociology at City, University of London. She has worked in cultural and media organisations in Senegal and Burkina Faso, and as an academic researcher in Canada, the UK and South Africa. As passionate creative thinker, she collaborates with key shapers and funders of the African creative sectors: she is a member of Institute Kôrè’s pedagogical committee (Mali); the Afrikayna Mobility Fund, the Art Lines’ jury (Morocco); the HEVA Fund’s Advisory Board (Kenya); and the UNESCO Expert Facility on Cultural Policy and Governance. She has a PhD in human geography (London School of Economics), and has held positions in South Africa (African Centre for Cities) and the U.K. (City, University of London).
