10 years of UNESCO’s Judges’ Initiative: lessons learnt and way forward
14:00-14:45 in the Partnerships Hub (Halle Saxe)
On its 10th anniversary, the session will take stock of the results achieved, lessons learnt, and way forward of UNESCO’s Judges’ Initiative, a global training programme which aims to strengthen knowledge and capacities of judicial actors from around the world on safeguarding freedom of expression, access to information, and safety of journalists, essential for upholding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Started in 2013, the Judges’ Initiative has successfully trained over 35,000 judicial actors from 160+ countries on international and regional standards on these issues through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), regional and national on-the-ground trainings, as well as the publication of toolkits and guidelines. As part of this strategy, 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ also established partnerships with regional courts of human rights, judicial institutions, and prosecutors' associations.
This session will be conducted in English.
