The 16th edition of The Week of Sound starting this week at UNESCO
From the 21 to the 27 January 2019, the 16th edition of The Week of Sound will be celebrated across France and internationally under the patronage of UNESCO.
Launched for the first time in 2004, The Week of Sound is a campaign to raise awareness for the social issues related to sound through a variety of events, conferences and forums.
For the 16th edition, two events will be taking place at UNESCO Headquarters:
- On the 22 January 2019, from 15 – 18:00 in Room XI, the renowned architect Roland CASTRO and other experts have organized a debate and workshop on the importance of including sound in urban planning. Registration for this event is mandatory and can be done .
- On the 23 January 2019, from 20 – 22:30 in Room I, a special concert will be given by Jordi SAVALL and the Concert of Nations to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the orchestra’s creation. Registration for this event is mandatory and can be done .
Our sound environment affects both our individual and collective behaviour, as well as our personal productivity and capacity to live in peace. As sound transverses a diverse range of fields, including education, science, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information, UNESCO is committed to raising awareness around the world for the powerful effect that sound has in our lives.
Comprising 5 subthemes, the week addresses questions related to the sound environment, health, sound recording, reproduction and conservation, the relation between image and sound, and musical and sound expression.
