The 49th International Roshd Educational Film Festival celebrates the UNESCO night at Felestin Cinema.

As part of the 49th International Roshd Educational Film Festival, the UNESCO Night Celebration took place on Tuesday, 19 Nov 2019, at Filastin Cinema, Tehran, Iran.
The ceremony started with a speech by Mr. Hassannejad who was in charge of Roshd Film Festival International affairs. He talked about the efforts of the I.R.I to reduce education inequalities and discriminations.
Then, a short video about UNESCO activities on promoting inclusive education was played. Following that, the message of OIC Tehran Cluster Office, Mr. Cvetkovski was delivered by Ms. Kamran, CI Officer at UTCO. She reaffirmed UNESCO鈥檚 support to the Islamic Republic of Iran in its efforts to further improve equity and quality in education, so that all children and youth can reach their full potential and contribute to the development of the country. Ms. Kamran pointed out the importance of new innovative ways in educating youth, in particular, media and information literacy skills. Media and information literacy (MIL) is a holistic response to fostering the informed use, consumption and production of media, including on the Internet, among youth.鈥 She added: 鈥淭herefore, this year at Roshd Film Festival, we are pleased to take another step towards supporting the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran to ensure quality education for all by creating equal opportunities for lifelong learning. This year鈥檚 nominations, especially the student section films, represent filmmakers concern and their deep connection to social issues.鈥
Other speakers of the event included, Dr. Namvar Motlagh, representing the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, who reiterated the importance of educating youth symbols and narratives rather than icons. He emphasized on preserving the youth identity through educational means so that they can relate to the real world using what they have learned at school.
Finally, Dr. Madadi, from Ministry of Education, elaborated on the aspects of Fundamental Reform Document of Education (FRDE) in which the child鈥檚 right to education has been recognized. Furthermore, the document can contribute to different aspects of educational policymaking. Doing so schools can play their central role to promote cultural and social values.
A few shortlisted films of the festival were also played for the audiences. Movies included Tangle, directed by Maliheh Gholamzadeh, and Closed frame, by Reyhaneh Salehpour.
