“Addressing the impact of COVID-19 on Youth” Conference

Two Arab teams from the Youth as Researchers (YAR) initiative participated in the international Knowledge-Sharing Meeting on “Addressing the impact of COVID-19 on Youth”, which took place online from 5 to 7 October 2021.
This knowledge-sharing event is part of the activities performed in the context of YAR signature programme of UNESCO. With a record of over 6,000 applications, the “YAR on COVID-19” is the largest global youth-led research programme focusing on the impact of the pandemic on youth. An essential element of the YAR initiative is the policy debate with decision makers. Committed to enabling inclusive dialogue, UNESCO is organizing this Knowledge-Sharing Meeting to share youth research findings with the academic community, experts and other stakeholders, in a view to identify priority policy recommendations and the steps needed to translate such recommendations into action.
In this regards, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States- Cairo Office supported the two Arab Teams in drafting and finalizing their reports. They then participated in the event by presenting their research findings and recommendations, and went through technical discussions with experts and policy makers from the region in order to strengthen the recommendations’ impact and identify priority actionable recommendations for post pandemic recovery for, with and by youth.
UNESCO will seek to share these actionable policy recommendations with Heads of State, Ministers of Youth and international organizations, among others, during the YAR Policy Conference that will take place in December 2021. The Policy Conference will further launch a multi-stakeholders global coalition to address the impact of the pandemic on youth and aim to secure tangible commitments to a Global Grant Scheme, in support of youth-led research and solutions.
