Almaty Training on Freedom of Expression and Public Order
As part of the UN Action Plan on Safety of Journalists, UNESCO Almaty is leading̀ưa training on Freedom of Expression and Public Order, to enhance cooperation between security forces and journalists.̀ư
The training took place on 9 December 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The event was organized in cooperation with UNODC, the National Commission for UNESCÒưand Media Alliance of Kazakhstan led by Mr Paul Daudin Clavaud, who had conducted similar trainings in Uzbekistan in 2018.
Some 20 law enforcement agencies and journalists from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Media NGOs: Internews and Adil Soz, as well as the International IT University, the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communications of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University learned how to improve the relationship between security forces and journalists; how security forces play a vital role in protecting and ensuring an environment conducive to freedom of expression, access to information and other fundamental freedoms.

The training is consistent with the goals and priorities defined in the UN Action Plan for the Safety of Journalists and the issue of impunity. The workshop devoted to the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI).
