On 23 April, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, and the Vice President of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, Her Excellency Leila Al Solh, signed a partnership agreement to strengthen the work of the UNESCO Office in Beirut in the area of educational resources and tools, by providing an E-Digital Library, a resource centre and a training facility – all of which will promote quality education for all in Lebanon, with a special focus on young people.

"This new agreement with the will strengthen the implementation of our work in Lebanon to support the aspirations and ambitions of the Lebanese people to a quality education that is inclusive and that allows them to increase their chances of integration in a world that is increasingly competitive".

"Lebanon requires all possible efforts to support the development of its society and make the most of its history and the wealth of its millennial cultural heritage," said Ms. Leila Al Solh, Vice President of the Alwaleed Foundation and former Minister of Social Affairs of Lebanon.

Established in 2003, the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation’s initiatives and programs in Lebanon are focused on addressing social and community needs in the country. The Foundation provides a framework for Prince Alwaleed’s philanthropic and charitable initiatives in Lebanon which date back to the 1980s.

"This new cooperation will bring UNESCO closer to the dreams of young Lebanese people and to support their creativity and develop their skills," said Irina Bokova.

This first agreement marks the beginning of cooperation across UNESCO’s areas of competence in the near future.
