At the halfway point of implementing the Education 2030 Agenda, the Asia-Pacific region shows mixed outcomes. While significant strides have been made in expanding access to pre-primary and primary education, secondary education and TVET remain critical gaps in the learning pathways, and learning outcomes across all levels continue to raise concerns.

Prepared by UNESCO Bangkok and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the Asia-Pacific Education 2030: SDG 4 Midterm Review concludes the collaborative national midterm reviews of SDG 4 in the Asia-Pacific and marks the start of the final push toward 2030. It serves as a valuable resource for stakeholders to reflect on progress, address challenges, and prepare for the remaining journey at both regional and national levels.

Meeting our shared commitment to the Education 2030 Agenda—ensuring no one is left behind—remains a formidable challenge, demanding a reinvigorated and realigned regional effort. In this spirit, and with the generous support of the Japanese Fund-in-Trust, the Asia-Pacific Education 2030: SDG 4 Midterm Review by UNESCO takes stock of current progress, highlights best practices from across the region, and drives momentum toward addressing Asia-Pacific’s most urgent education priorities.
