Disinformation and hate speech in Latin America

Disinformation is currently one of the most serious challenges, with the ability to endanger people's lives in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic. In response to this new scenario, UNESCO is developing resources to help combat the spread of COVID-19 mis/disinformation in Latin America and the Caribbean. Most recently, UNESCO Montevideo has released two new discussion papers aimed at promoting critical thinking, raise awareness about the impact of COVID-19 mis/disinformation and the rise in the spread of hate speech in the region. Both studies were conducted in cooperation with the Latin American Observatory for Regulation, Media and Convergence (OBSERVACOM) within the framework of the , funded by the European Union (EU) in partnership with UNESCO
