The Early Childhood First Project, a social development initiative by Petrobras in partnership with UNESCO in Brazil, will start on Monday (8/21) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The training process for the first group of representatives of civil society organizations (OSCs) aims to improve public policies and social assistance services for early childhood (0 to 6 years old) and pregnant women.

The project's goal is to qualify representatives of 210 civil society organizations (CSOs) located in 15 municipalities, distributed in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo, and at least one city in the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. In all, the project is developed in three stages. It will identify CSO actions in early childhood, recognize reasonable efforts focused on the theme, and conduct an external evaluation of the project.

UNESCO and Petrobras, to contribute to the strengthening of these organizations and the development of the capacities of their staff, join efforts and their accumulated expertise in the elaboration and implementation of projects for the qualification of CSOs, to provide organizations in the network on social welfare of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS), which work with the early childhood public, a significant opportunity to acquire new knowledge, to improve the services they offer.

The course is face-to-face and lasts 40 hours, of which 32 hours will be devoted to specific content on early childhood and 8 hours to adapting organizations to the new Regulatory Framework for Civil Society Organizations (MROSC). This combination is necessary to integrate the reflection on the advances in early childhood care with the latest legal framework for the functioning of the OCSs, to promote a better operationalization of practices and the qualification of the work carried out by the project's focus organizations.

At the end of the learning processes, the participants are expected to gather subsidies that allow the improvement of their professional performance in the themes of early childhood in the context of the government agenda. It is also expected that the course will be an effective contribution by the project and its partners to public policy under the responsibility of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family, and Fight against Hunger. The project also provides for the organization of a medium-term distance learning course based on didactic material and the experience of face-to-face meetings, which is under the responsibility of a specialized consultancy.
