The UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA), headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, serves 13 disparate UNESCO Member States with a total population of nearly 350 million people. The office is structured around education, the sciences, culture, communication and information and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Africa Secretariat. ROEA has a physical presence in nine countries, with Somalia being the latest addition, and plans to gradually improve representation and responsiveness by opening new offices in the remaining countries
