The first Governing Board meeting of Regional Center for Water Harvesting in Khartoum, Sudan

On the 12th of December 2016 the Head of the Khartoum office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan H.E. Dr. Pavel Kroupkine with assistance of the Senior Water Specialist in the Cairo office of UNESCO, Dr. Bisher Imam, represented UNESCO in the 1st meeting of the Governing Board of the Regional Center for Water Harvesting (RCWH, the UNESCO Category 2 Center), which took place in Khartoum, Corinthia Hotel.  The meeting was chaired by H.E. Eng. Khidir Gism Elseed, the State Minister and Director of Dams Implementation Unit in the Ministry of Water Resources Irrigation and Electricity, and consisted of the members – water experts from Sudan, Egypt, Japan and Serbia, and observers – water experts from Sudan and Egypt.

The Governing Board approved the procedure of its work, the report and organizational chart of the Center, the three members of the Advisory Technical Committee: Prof. Abdin Salih, Prof. Gamal Abdo, and Dr. Ahmed Eltayeb, and requested to prepare the strategic outlines for the Center researches and capacity building activities in 2017.

 The Regional Centre on Capacity Development and Research in Water Harvesting (RCWH) was established in 2014 as the Category 2 UNESCO Center under auspices of UNESCO and the Sudanese Ministry of Water Resources Irrigation and Electricity, and aims to organizing a regional cooperation and networking, providing capacity building, supporting researches, generating, collecting and managing data, etc. – in various domains of water harvesting.
