Flagship Program 3 - Promoting Cultural Heritage and Capacity Development

This event will provide a comprehensive update on the implementation of the Flagship Program, highlighting successes, challenges, and areas requiring further attention and support for enhanced implementation.
Central to this meeting will be the presentation of an innovative new project centered on museums, developed by the Culture Sector in partnership with the Division for Priority Africa Coordination. This project aims to enhance the role of museums in preserving and celebrating African heritage and empowering the continent's youth.
Museums are fundamental to both preserving and showcasing cultural heritage locally and globally. In Africa, their role is increasingly recognized, but for museums to fully fulfill their mission, strategies must be developed to address the challenges they face.
Cultural heritage plays a significant role in African communities by establishing a deep connection with identity and a sense of belonging. African customs and traditions, passed down through generations, form the foundation of values, histories, and cultures that unite societies across the continent. It is crucial for Africans to preserve, celebrate, and embrace their heritage to better understand their shared history and envision a promising future. Museums, as repositories of these stories, traditions, and customs, must play a key role in this endeavor, particularly by targeting younger generations to raise awareness about their cultural legacy.
