G20 Education and Employment Working Groups meet at ILO

The Joint Meeting of the Education and Employment Working Groups discussed how to better bridge education and the world of work. Subjects on the agenda consisted of skills for the digital economy, the transition from school to work, skills governance including skills anticipation and policy coordination, and the importance of a multistakeholder approach.
UNESCO was represented by Borhene Chakroun, Chief of Youth, Literacy and Skills Development and Jordan Naidoo, Director of the Division for Education 2030 Support and Coordination.
They emphasised the importance of teacher training with special focus on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) teachers and trainers, and presented their international experience within policy work and support of youth transition to labour markets.
The Group of Twenty (G20) is a leading forum made up of 19 countries and the world's major economies, that seeks to develop global policies to address today’s most pressing challenges.
It started in 1999 and is today a major forum for dialogue and decision-making attended by world leaders from vital economies.
The Education Working Group will have their next meeting on 3 to 4 September, and a joint session with the Employment Working Group on 4 September.
