Inauguration of the Chilehaus Exhibition: Atacama/Hamburg

Centro Cultural La Moneda presents the Chilehaus: Atacama / Hamburg exhibition, curated by architect Alfredo Thiermann. It offers a broad and unique perspective on the relationship between a monumental and iconic building located in the city of Hamburg—known as Chilehaus—and the nitrate industry of the early 20th century in the Atacama Desert.

Based on the history of this building, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, this exhibition aims to highlight, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the power relations and dynamics of global capitalism that impact both the territories and the people who inhabit them.

This research has been produced and sponsored by the Laboratory of History and Theory of Architecture, Technology, and Environment, which includes Pedro Correa, Ella Neumaier, and Xavier Nueno, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland). The exhibition is sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chile and is supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, UNESCO, the Rural Architecture Biennale, and CONAF.
