Webinar series “Breaking cycles: Preventing and addressing violence in the education sector” - Session 1

The online webinar series "Breaking cycles: Preventing and Addressing Violence in the Education Sector," organized by the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago, will be dedicated to dialogue about tangible practices and experiences in preventing and addressing violence in education. It provides a space dor stakeholders to exchange knowledge and lessons learned from initiatives on this topic. The seminar series will take place from April to November 2025.
The first session of the series, "Preventing Violence through Socio-Emotional Development. The Case of Aulas en Paz," will be held virtually on April 24, 2025, at 5:00 PM Chilean time.
Aulas en Paz is a Colombian organization dedicated to designing and implementing peacebuilding school programs, teacher training, and educational innovation, aiming to foster the socio-emotional development of students, create constructive and violence-free environments in schools, and promote mental health care in educational communities.
For this first session, the executive director of Aulas en Paz, José Fernando Mejía, will be our featured speaker. Together, we will explore the motivation behind the organization’s creation, its early experiences, current challenges, larger-scale projects, and international experiences. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
