The event will bring together representatives of prominent European and Cuban institutions, as part of the twinning strategy between Caribbean and European Union institutions under the programme , implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union.

Sixteen specialists from Austria, Belgium, Spain and Italy will experience firsthand the training facilities for heritage restoration and conservation in the heart of the World Heritage site of Old Havana and its fortification system, as well as the potential of Santa Clara College to offer professional services in areas of shared interest. At the same time, participants will work on developing strategies to enhance the international positioning of Santa Clara College's academic and cultural offerings in Europe and establish a medium-term cooperation roadmap.

The recently established Santa Clara College is one of the institutions of the Caribbean Cultural Training Hub which was created as part of the Transcultura programme to strengthen the professionalization of the culture and creative sectors in the Caribbean. It will be housed in the historic former Santa Clara Convent in Old Havana, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation with support from the EU-funded Transcultura programme, among other donors.

Objectives

  1. Identify guidelines for an academic and cultural cooperation roadmap between the European interested parties and Santa Clara College.
  2. Facilitate the update of Santa Clara College's preliminary academic and cultural offerings by incorporating best practices and insights shared by representatives of European institutions during the event.
  3. Present to the participating European institutions:
  • proposals for academic services at Santa Clara College;
  • general lines of a work plan for the institutional residency of Santa Clara College representatives in selected European entities.

Twinning for Academic Management and Collaboration

The meeting will take place as part of the Twinning and Joint Actions for Cultural Exchange Cooperation component of the Transcultura programme, which fosters cultural alliances and the transfer of good practices among individuals, associations of artists, initiatives and individual or collective projects in the Caribbean and Europe. In this case, it refers to an exchange of good practices between Santa Clara College and educational institutions of the European Union linked to heritage restoration, conservation and management. Through this scheme, professionals and twinned institutions work to build and preserve the sustainability of their educational offers and other associated services.
