Planting Seeds of Change

Shaping Green Futures Through Education
Seeds of change

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, threatening lives, economies, and ecosystems across the globe. From rising sea levels to record-breaking heat, no region is immune. Education systems worldwide must urgently respond by equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to navigate and shape a changing planet.

South Asia, home to a quarter of the world’s population, is one of the most climate-vulnerable regions. The effects—floods, droughts, heatwaves—are already disrupting learning, displacing communities, and deepening inequalities.

±«±··¡³§°ä°¿â€™s&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Greening Education Partnership (GEP) responds to this global and regional crisis by embedding climate and environmental education across four pillars: Greening SchoolsGreening CurriculumGreening Teacher Training and Education Systems' Capacities, and Greening Communities.

Following the release of , UNESCO’s 2023 State of the Education Report for India, our South Asia office has accelerated efforts to turn evidence into action. Across Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal, we are working with governments to embed climate education into national curricula, train teachers, green learning environments, and prepare communities.

By transforming how and what we teach, we’re not just preparing learners to face the future—we’re empowering them to shape it. A greener, more resilient South Asia is within reach, and education is the path forward.
