The main objective of the webinar is to present the outcomes of the Regional Follow-up Conference to CONFINTEA VII, held in Santiago, Chile, in November 2023. During that event, progress in youth and adult education in Latin America and the Caribbean was assessed based on the commitments made in the 2022 Marrakech Framework for Action. Additionally, national experiences were shared on initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive and equitable education for the adult population.

Latin America and the Caribbean is a region characterised by great cultural diversity but also faces significant inequalities, particularly in access to educational opportunities for youth and adults. Despite progress in literacy rates in recent years, educational opportunities remain unequal, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations such as women, older adults, Indigenous peoples, and rural communities.

Following up on the agreements from CONFINTEA VII is crucial for promoting inclusive public policies that ensure lifelong learning. The outcomes of the regional conference highlight the need for strong political and financial support to guarantee the sustainability of adult education programmes and achieve the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).

This webinar will explore the best strategies to address these inequalities and ensure the right to quality education for all. It will feature the participation of education and public policy experts who will discuss the challenges and prospects for youth and adult education in the region. The event aims to foster a rich exchange that contributes to strengthening existing initiatives and promoting multisectoral collaboration to overcome the barriers faced by the most vulnerable sectors in accessing education.

The event will be streamed via and will include simultaneous interpretation into English through the Zoom platform.
