Event
Second koneltun of the project for the linguistic, cultural and pedagogical strengthening of traditional educators of the Mapuche-Huilliche people: development of linguistic, cultural and pedagogical immersion experiences

The project, carried out by the University of Los Lagos in collaboration with the Bilingual Intercultural Education Program (PEIB) of the Ministry of Education and with the support of UNESCO, aims to develop an immersion model to strengthen the teaching of the Mapuche-Huilliche language and culture. This model not only focuses on linguistic training but also seeks to promote cultural preservation and the reinforcement of the territorial identity of the Mapuche-Huilliche community.
This second gathering will involve 24 traditional educators, who will work in Mapuche-Huilliche territories to achieve a meaningful and culturally grounded immersion experience. After the koneltun, the educators are required to implement an activity in their classrooms based on what they learned during the immersive experience, which will be monitored by the University of Los Lagos team.
This initiative is part of the efforts within the framework of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032), proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, and it is expected that the insights gained from these events will contribute to the creation of a replicable model for other indigenous communities, such as the Quechua and Aymara, in the near future.
The first koneltun took place in Curaco de Vélez, Chiloé, on May 30 and 31, with the participation of traditional educators from the region. The accumulated experience from these two events will help solidify the foundation for continuing similar projects in other localities and further strengthen the linguistic revitalisation of indigenous peoples in Chile.
