Selection of the best short films from all over the world showcased at UNESCO’s Golden Nights 2014
Thirty-one of the most creative new short movies in all genres from all over the world will be screened at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris from 16 to 18 June during the 2014 Golden Nights.
Presented by the French Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques, known in France as the Académie des César, these films—all of them less than 40 minutes long—have won awards by national film institutions or leading festivals in their respective countries.
The Golden Nights will showcase movies in 18 languages by young directors and actors some of whom will become the leading film makers of tomorrow. In fact, most acclaimed cinema professionals have entered the profession with short movies, which are easier to fund and produce, giving their creators valuable artistic freedom.
The creative freedom of short movies often leads to the production of works that reflect a much broader range of cultural diversity than is available in commercial feature movies. This is particularly valuable to UNESCO, which in 2005 adopted the Convention on the Promotion and Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Expression.
The forthcoming Golden Nights, held for the 4th consecutive year, is organized by UNESCO in partnership with Renault and the Académie des César. The selection is slated to be screened in 17 French cities and nine countries (Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Luxemburg, Portugal, and Spain and Switzerland).
