Seminar: "Television and its challenges"
The seminar will open with speeches from Mauricio Muñoz, President of the National Television Council (CNTV); Valtencir Mendes, Head of Education at UNESCO's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean; Rosa Devés, Rector of the University of Chile; and Camila Vallejo, Minister Secretary General of Government.
Seminar focus
Considering the seminar's objective, the key foundational themes to be addressed in the opening speeches, which will set the framework for the seminar, are as follows:
Transformations of television in the digital age. This will focus on how television is adapting to changes brought about by digital convergence, artificial intelligence, and the fourth industrial revolution, with an emphasis on the evolution of audiovisual content and its future dilemmas.
Television as a pillar in the construction of public opinion and democracy. Topics such as freedom of expression, misinformation, and the challenges of public policies in this new media environment will be discussed, among others.
Transformations in the television iIndustry. The seminar will also cover how the television industry is responding to new market demands and audience changes, including the impact of content monetisation and the role of global platforms.
Importance of television vs. other platforms. Broadcast TV ranks third in popularity with 63%. Social media is in first place with 94%, followed by streaming at 70%. Average daily consumption of broadcast TV is 4 hours and 1 minute in 2023.
Television in the new convergent landscape. Television remains the primary source of information; therefore, it is crucial to highlight the importance of a diverse, plural, and inclusive television system that ensures the representation and participation of various social groups on screen.
