Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum and UNESCO sign two Project Agreements for over USD 6million
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance of the United Arab Emirates, paid a visit to UNESCO in the framework of the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO on the first day of the 38th Session of the General Conference on 3 November 2015.
At this occasion, the Director-General, Mrs Irina Bokova and the Minister of Education, H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, signed the two agreements in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. These two agreements formalize the generous donation of USD 5million made by HH Sheikh Hamdan for the renovation and improvement of Room I at UNESCO Headquarters, as well as the additional USD1.2million towards a project named 鈥淚mplementing the Postgraduate Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development in the Arab region鈥.
The overall objective of the 24 months project in the Arab region is to provide conceptual and practical skills and tools for enhancing the capacity of curriculum specialists, teacher educators and teachers to develop and implement quality inclusive curriculum within the framework of the .
The generous donations of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum are in the spirit of the very successful cooperation established between UNESCO and 鈥溾 since 2008.
The Director-General welcomed the generous contribution with deep appreciation and profound gratitude, and awarded His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the medal of the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO.
A large delegation of 30 accompanied Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum in his visit. Among them: H.H Rashid Bin Hamdan, son of the Sheikh Hamdan, H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, H.E. Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water.
Prior to the signature of the Agreements, H.H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum addressed the 38th session of the General Conference, delivering a speech in Room I when he stated that 鈥淯AE desire drives us towards working more and exerting efforts, in cooperation with UNESCO, to provide more opportunities to reward outstanding practices of teachers in developing countries鈥.
