Tourism Strategy Development for the City of Khiva was discussed in Khiva

UNESCO Office in Tashkent in partnership with the municipality of Khiva and with the financial support of the European Union organized a two-day workshop to develop a strategy for sustainable tourism in Khiva (Khorezm region).
Mr Peter Debrine, Senior Project Officer of UNESCO's World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme, and Mr Peter Seek, Sustainable Tourism Consultant, conducted the workshop.
The workshop helped local representatives of the public and private tourism sector to correctly define priorities and create a focused Destination Management Planning for the City of Khiva.
The workshop identified a mechanism for action and investment needed to develop an inclusive sustainable tourism industry in the city and to safeguard cultural heritage, in particular the , World Heritage Site.
The outcomes of this workshop will be served as a road map for coordinating and investing in the priority actions needed to inclusively grow the tourism industry.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the UNESCO project: "Afghanistan, Central Asia and Iran 鈥 Common Heritage along the Silk Roads and corridors to and from Europe", launched in October 2018 with EU financial support. In the long term, the project will strengthen the contribution of culture to sustainable development, in particular through heritage-based tourism development, diversifying tourism products and delivering high-quality visitor experiences along the Silk Roads heritage corridors in the participating countries.
