UNESCO and the Andrés Bello Agreement align to promote Equivalency Table and guarantee people in contexts of mobility the right to education

In Santiago, Chile on May 7, 2019, UNESCO and the Andrés Bello Agreement (Convenio Andrés Bello, CAB) aligned to promote application of the CAB Equivalency Table as a reference tool to facilitate and streamline the processes of integrating people in contexts of mobility and guaranteeing their right to education.
At the meeting, the parties agreed upon actions to standardize recognition mechanisms across the region. They will also analyze the feasibility of a regional meeting with other international bodies to address shared objectives and those of each individual organization for 2019-2020.
Other matters addressed at the meeting were related to UNESCO-CAB cooperation mechanisms and mutual assistance in the area of education and technical and vocational training (EFTP) and coordination of activities related to UNESCO’s Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE). The Laboratory conducts regional comparative and explanatory studies that assess the learning of girls and boys in almost all of the region’s Spanish-speaking countries.
CAB was represented by Olga Turbay, Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Advisor; Tania Gordon, General Coordinator of Educational Inclusion Strategy; Jose FrÃas, Director of Andrés Bello Agreement Educational Programs; and Mónica Latorre, Coordinator of the CAB Equivalency Technicians Network. UNESCO was represented by Claudia Uribe, Director of the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago), who led the meeting, as well as by Paula Klenner, Ramón Iriarte and Atilio Pizarro.
