UNESCO and Lee Seung-yuop Baseball Foundation sign agreement to collaborate in supporting the Asia Pacific Youth and Sport Task Force

Launching a partnership between UNESCO and Lee Seung-yuop Baseball Foundation

12 December 2019. UNESCO HQ Paris. Mr. Lee Seung-yuop, a world-famous baseball player from Republic of Korea and the head of the Foundation he has established to promote the values of sport, has met UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences to sign the agreement on launching collaboration on Youth and Sport Task Force Initiative.

is a collective of young leaders who use sport to make a difference at the grassroots level. Established by UNESCO Jakarta Office in 2017 following the Youth and SDGs funshop in Manila, the Philippines, the Task Force is dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalized and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through the power of sport.

The 2019 Sport & the SDGs Youth Funshop will be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, bringing together the current and prospective members of the Task Force for targeted capacity-building trainings and structured opportunities to build working partnerships and share good practices. The Funshop in Seoul will:

  • Enhance the capacities of the Task Force Members to analyse the impact of their respective sports-based initiatives;
  • Identify their successful elements and to promote them internationally as evidence-based good practices to mobilize the youth towards the SDGs;
  • Expand the Task Force membership to capture the initiatives from more countries from Asia-Pacific (from the current ten countries represented by the Task Force members to thirty);
  • Develop a special focus on safeguarding youth and children involved in sport.
