UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Francisco Ramirez Amador in Honduras

I condemn the killing of Francisco Ramirez Amador. I urge an investigation into the circumstances of this killing to ensure that the perpetrators are held to account. Journalists have a vital role in informing populations and such crimes against them must never go unpunished.

Francisco Ramirez Amador was a social communicator and contributor to the media outlet Canal 24. He was reportedly shot dead in an attack that also injured a police officer who had been accompanying him as part of protection measures he had been receiving.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
