UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Malik Zafar Iqbal Naich in Pakistan

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalist Malik Zafar Iqbal Naich in the Punjab city of Rahim Yar Khan, in Pakistan on 12 December.

I condemn the killing of Malik Zafar Iqbal Naich. Protection of journalists is essential for populations to continue receiving critical information for daily decision making. I call for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Malik Zafar Iqbal Naich was a reporter for Daily Khabrain newspaper. He was shot dead by unidentified assailants while distributing newspapers in Rahim Yar Khan city.
