UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalists Marckendy Nathoux and Jimmy Jean in Haiti

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalists Marckendy Nathoux and Jimmy Jean in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on 24 December.

I condemn the killing of Marckendy Nathoux and Jimmy Jean. Journalists play a vital role in informing the public and must be protected. I call upon the authorities to ensure these crimes are investigated and prosecuted.

Marckendy Nathoux worked for Voice of America in Haiti, while Jimmy Jean worked with online outlet Moun Afe Bon.

They were reportedly killed by members of an armed group as they were waiting to attend a press conference by the Health Minister in a hospital. Seven other journalists were injured in the same attack.
