UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of media worker Ryan Evans in Ukraine

I condemn the killing of Ryan Evans and call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his killing. I reiterate my call for the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2222/2015, and for the punishment of all those responsible for crimes against journalists.

Ryan Evans worked with Reuters as a safety adviser for their journalists covering the conflict in Ukraine. He was on assignment in a hotel in Kramatorsk when a missile reportedly hit the building, killing him and injuring three other journalists.
