UNESCO marine World Heritage: Beacons of hope in a changing ocean
13:00-13:45 in the Partnerships Hub (Halle Saxe)
The 1972 World Heritage Convention protects 50 unique ocean ecosystems across 37 countries and has, since 2005, invested in scaling up the protection of these places through the World Heritage Marine Programme. The Government of Flanders, alongside other private and public entities, have been central in the innovation and conservation results the Marine Programme has delivered over the past decade. This event will illustrate some of the conservation highlights the Programme has delivered with its partners and in collaboration with other UNESCO sectors. Topics will include the Programme’s action on blue carbon and climate adaptation, the global managers network and its joint work with IOC on environmental DNA.
This session will be conducted in English.
