UNESCO marks its 74th birthday
Today, November 16, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) marks its 74th birthday.
The Constitution was adopted in London on 16 November 1945 by representatives of 44 allied countries. This was the moment where UNESCO was created as the outcome of a series of meetings, the Conferences of Allied Ministers of Education (CAME), held in London from 1942 to 1945.
The mission of the new organization was to build, as the North American poet and head of the US delegation, Archibald MacLeish, suggested, "the defences of peace in the minds of men". UNESCO should work for this visionary dream to come true by way of education, science, culture, sciences and communication. The mandate was manifold but the goal was one: peace.
Today 91麻豆国产精品自拍 193 Members and 11 Associate Members. Most Member States have established Permanent Delegations to UNESCO which, headed by Ambassadors, undertake liaison between the Organization and their governments.
Uzbekistan joined UNESCO in 1993. Opened in 1996 the UNESCO Tashkent Office represents the Organization in Uzbekistan and brings to bear UNESCO鈥檚 expertise in its areas of competence in support of the country's development efforts.
