The Zhi Zeng Art Museum, located in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China, recently announced its decision to support the organization of the first UNESCO High Level Forum on Museums, as part of a partnership agreement signed on 7 March by UNESCO and Mr. Wu Fuqing, the Museum’s Director-General.
Scheduled to be held this November in Shenzhen, a UNESCO Creative City of Design, the forum will bring together numerous ministers of culture and directors of the world’s leading museums to discuss the social, educational and economic value of museums, as well as their key role in promoting intercultural dialogue and sustainable development.
The forum will also represent a timely opportunity to discuss the implementation of UNESCO’s recently adopted , which provides a set of innovative policy guidelines for strengthening and broadening the role of museums in a new era of social, economic and technological change. At a time when culture is increasingly facing new challenges and threats, UNESCO believes that the city of Shenzhen’s commitment to supporting the protection and promotion of museums can serve as a model for similar initiatives around the world.
