Valuing water: World Water Day 2021

The UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) in collaboration with WaterNet Trust will host a regional webinar to commemorate this year鈥檚 World Water Day on the 22 March 2021 under the theme 鈥淰aluing water鈥.  In celebrating this day, the public, academia, researchers, UN agencies, young water professionals, water service providers, consumers and other key stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector are all invited to share their opinions and comments on their understanding of the theme.

World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The aim of commemorating World Water Day continues to be celebrating water and raising awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. This Day is an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference.

A presentation on  the World Water Development Report will be made followed by a roundtable discussion on the theme guided by the 5 valuing water principles which are recognizing and embracing water鈥檚 multiple values, reconcile and build trust, protect the sources, educate to empower and invest and motivate.
