World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education: Republic of Uzbekistan hosts inaugural meeting of organizing committee

On 25 July 2022, UNESCO and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan held the Inaugural meeting of the Organizing Committee in Tashkent to discuss critical elements regarding the organizational aspects of the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education, taking place from 14 to 16 November 2022 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Organizing Committee is chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr Abdulla Aripov, together with the UNESCO Director-General, Ms. Audrey Azoulay as co-chair. The Ministry of Preschool Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan serves as the secretariat and leading implementer.
The event highlighted discussions and guidance on the logistical needs of the conference and organizational strategy, including mobilization of key stakeholders supporting the organization of the conference at the country level.
As Stated by the Assistant Director-General for Education, Ms. Stefania Giannini, 鈥淭he Tashkent declaration that the Conference will hopefully adopt should set the path to making quality ECCE the right of every young child, with strong policy commitments to make this happen.鈥 In this sense, the overall goal of the World Conference on ECCE is to renew and expand the political commitment and engagement of Member States to develop ECCE policies, establish effective and accountable ECCE systems, build multi-stakeholder partnerships, and to increase and improve investment in ECCE as an essential component of their strategies for achieving lifelong learning societies and sustainable development.
In his introductory remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr Aziz Abdukhakimov, emphasized that "Holding the Second World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education will give an opportunity to exchange ideas and valuable experiences with all of the countries of the world. It will also be an occasion to define the early childhood agenda and strategic actions for the next ten years."
To ensure an efficient organization and coordination toward the world conference, the Organizing Committee will be organized into 15 sub-committees covering logistics, security, protocol, resource mobilization, and partnership building in-country for the World Conference on ECCE. The Committee will hold regular meetings until November 2022. For effective coordination, the Ministry of Pre-School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan will also establish a permanent steering committee that will include key representatives from all ministries and departments involved in early childhood care and education.
The world Conference will set the agenda for Early childhood for the next ten years and, advance early childhood as a Human Right, a right to Education for all children, stipulated Mr Borhene Chakroun, Director of Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
