World Press Freedom Day 2018 in the Khartoum / Omdurman / Bahri metropolis

On 3 May 2018, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan, Dr. Pavel Kroupkine participated in commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day. The event was organized by the Sudanese Journalist Union in their premises, and attracted about 300 participants – journalists and other media professionals, representatives from the international community and government officials. H.E. Dr. Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, the assistant of the President of Sudan, H.E. Dr. Yassir Yousif, the State Minister in the Ministry of Information, H.E. Amb. Mohammed bin Maa Alaineen, the Ambassador of Morocco to Sudan, H.E. Amb. Irfan Neziroglu, the Ambassador of Turkey to Sudan, top managers of the Sudanese media, appropriate government officials and civil society leaders honored the event.
In his speech, Dr. Pavel Kroupkine highlighted the importance of quality and exhaustive information for the decision makers and public – and the contribution of Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Press to this. He expressed his satisfaction, that Sudan joined the World in commemorating the World Press Freedom Day 2018. He delivered to the public the . He congratulated the Sudanese Journalist Union, and its President, Mr. Alsadig Alrizagi, for the wiliness to support high level of journalism and keep themselves out of fake news flows.
