World Press Freedom Day is a day of support for media outlets that are subject to restrictions or threats to their freedom. It is also a day of tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their reporting work.

Considering this context, the three agencies of the United Nations System: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); along with the three main organizations working for press freedom in Peru: the National Association of Journalists (ANP), the Institute of Press and Society (IPYS), and the Peruvian Press Council (CPP); With funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the support of the Canadian Embassy, they renew their partnership to hold a second annual event in the framework of World Press Freedom Day, on Monday, May 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Lima.

The event aims to raise awareness among key stakeholders who exert influence over citizens. This is done by highlighting the risks facing the press in the country and proposing possible ways to contribute to improving this situation, based on the role of various actors, such as the State, the international community, and civil society, while considering the complex electoral context and the sociopolitical crisis.
