Creative Economy for Sustainable Development in Brazil
The culture sector is among the fastest-growing sectors in the world, accounting for 6.1% of the global economy. The cultural and creative industries generate annual revenues of US$ 2,250 billion and nearly 30 million jobs worldwide, employing more people aged 15 to 29 than any other sector.

UNESCO Brasilia works on the ground to support the Brazilian government and local stakeholders in strengthening the creative economy and encouraging cultural diversity.
Furthermore, the Organization supports initiatives to turn museums into leaders in bolstering the creative economy locally and regionally.

2005 Convention on Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions
Shaping the design and implementation of policies and measures that support the creation, production, distribution of and access to cultural goods and services, the 2005 Convention on Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions is at the heart of the creative economy.
UNESCO Creative Cities Network
UNESCO's Creative Cities Network implements the 2030 Agenda through culture. This Network promotes cooperation between cities that recognize creative work as one of the strategies for economic, social, cultural and environmental development. These cities are committed to promoting culture in seven areas: gastronomy, design, crafts and popular arts, music, cinema, media arts, and literature.

Joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network
By joining the Network, cities commit to sharing their best practices and developing partnerships by engaging the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, to:
- Strengthen the creation, production, distribution and dissemination of cultural activities, goods and services
- Develop creativity and innovation centres and expand opportunities for creators and professionals in the cultural sector
- Improving access to and participation in cultural life, in particular for marginalized or vulnerable groups and individuals
- Fully integrate culture and creativity into sustainable development plans
The Network is a platform for reflection on the role of creativity not only as a driver for sustainable development, but also as a fertile ground for action and innovation.
