Closing the global SDG4 financing gap: Accelerating sustainable financing solutions for education

The , convened by the United Nations from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville, Spain, constitutes an important milestone to assess progress made towards the Addis Ababa Agenda, address emerging development finance issues, advance the SDGs, and support reform of the international financial architecture. Its outcome document is expected to include actionable items related to the international financial architecture reform to finance the 2030 Agenda, domestic public resource mobilization, private business and finance, international development cooperation, international trade, debt and debt sustainability, systemic issues and governance, science technology and innovation, and data and monitoring. In order to secure education’s strategic positioning in the conference agenda and outcome document, the SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee elaborated a set of key messages for the FfD4 for dissemination and influencing.

The Financing Policy Brief Series has been prepared by the Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development to inform the substantive preparations for the FfD4. The Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development is comprised of more than 60 United Nations Agencies and international organizations. The policy briefs in this series were not subject to review by Task Force Members, and represent the views of the authoring organizations.
