CAF and UNESCO will create a council to review ethical criteria for artificial intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Executive President of CAF-Development Bank of Latin America, Sergio D铆az-Granados, and the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Gabriela Ramos, signed a letter of intent to implement in the region the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, adopted in November 2021 by the 193 Member States of UNESCO.
Both organizations committed to creating a Regional AI Ethics Council, of which the region's national and local governments will form part, and which will support governments through the development of methodologies, guides and training programmes that facilitate the implementation of AI recommendation.
From UNESCO we see with great enthusiasm this alliance to advance ethical AI technologies. We are certain that it will be truly transformative for the region.
鈥淭his agreement reinforces CAF's commitment to promoting artificial intelligence in the service of people and the sustainable and inclusive development that the countries of the region require. We need to implement new technological tools that improve public management, but we must ensure that they meet ethical criteria,鈥 said D铆az-Granados.
The agreement will also motivate AI solutions based on ethical principles that promote the respect, protection and promotion of human dignity, human rights, the preservation of the environment and ecosystems, diversity and inclusion and peaceful, fair and interconnected societies. With this signature, both organizations are committed to an ethical, inclusive and democratic AI - at the service of the people.
