Director-General condemns killing of broadcast journalist Dylan Lyons in the United States of America

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has condemned the killing of local journalist Dylan Lyons in Pine Hills, Florida, USA on 22 February.

I condemn the killing of Dylan Lyons. The safety of journalists reporting on crime must be protected and those who target them must be prosecuted.

Lyons worked for local channel Spectrum News 13. He was reporting from the scene of an earlier shooting when the perpetrator reportedly returned and fatally shot him. A photojournalist working for the same outlet was also shot and injured.
