Director-General condemns murder of newspaper owner and journalist Luiz Carlos Gomes in Brazil
I condemn the killing of Luiz Carlos Gomes. Violence against journalists not only targets individuals, it also strikes at the fundamental human right of freedom of expression and the right of citizens to access independent information. I call on the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice.
Gomes, the owner of the Tempo News newspaper who also presented a weekly programme on community radio R谩dio O谩sis FM, was killed by two men on a motorcycle on his way home with his wife.
