Director-General at the UN Chief Executives Board for Coordination
On 27 and 28 April, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova took part in the first 2016 regular session of the UN Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), held in Vienna, at the Headquarters of UNODC, under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary-General.
The Director-General briefed UN Principals on the recent work and deliverables achieved by the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM) under her chairmanship, as well as on further actions foreseen by HLCM to support the UN system in the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In the context of the CEB’s discussion on the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit on 23-24 May 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey, Director-General Bokova highlighted the need to allocate more humanitarian funding to education, integrating humanitarian and development concerns, in an effort to tackle the root causes of crises, both in a preventive manner and in peacebuilding.
At the margins of the CEB, the Director-General participated in the deliberations of the UNDG Advisory Group at Principals-level, and held several bilateral meetings.
