1) Illuminating Press Freedom: UNESCO and UNDP's Collaborative Efforts in Peru
Date and place: 2 November 2023, Cusco, Peru.
In commemoration of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (IDEI), UNESCO and UNDP organized the conference 'Periodismo Libre: por una sociedad con derecho a la información' (Free Journalism: Towards a Society with the Right to Information) on November 2 in Cusco, Peru This event aimed to heighten awareness among present and future journalists, as well as local government and the general public, regarding the urgent need to eradicate impunity for crimes against journalists. It not only illuminated the pervasive risks faced by journalists in Peru but also delved into region-specific challenges in Cusco, offering crucial insights into emerging threats such as digital violence and gender-specific risks and highlighting the importance of freedom of expression and a robust justice system to counteract impunity.

2) UNESCO Peru Elevates Legal Guardians: Defending Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety
Date and place: 20 – 22 June 2023, Lima, Peru.
UNESCO Peru, in collaboration with the Public Ministry of Peru and with support from the Canadian Embassy and OCHCR Peru Office, orchestrated a three-day training program from June 20 to 22, 2023. This comprehensive initiative for 25 judicial officers aimed to enhance their skills in applying international standards for freedom of expression and journalist safety under the framework of UNESCO's Judges' Initiative. The training specifically addressed gender-related challenges encountered by female journalists, tackling stereotypes, and reinforced expertise in implementing a multisectoral protocol for the protection of journalists. The Training of Trainers (ToT) methodology was applied to further enrich the learning experience.
