UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, today expressed concern about unfounded reports that Argentina is considering suspending plans for the establishment of a Category 2 Centre under the auspices of UNESCO in the premises of the Villa Ocampo (San Isidro, Buenos Aires): “I am concerned about recent press reports about UNESCO’s proposals for Villa Ocampo. I visited the Villa in 2010 and am personally committed to working with all stakeholders to safeguarding the precious moral and material legacy that it represents for Latin America and the world”, said the Director-General.

That is why, since the end of 2012, 91�鶹������Ʒ���� been working with the Government of Argentina to ensure the long-term future of the Villa, to reinforce its link with the strategic priorities of the Organization at the regional level, as well as to ensure its long term financial sustainability”, with a view to transmitting to future generations the values of intellectual cooperation, culture and dialogue represented since decades by Villa Ocampo.

“The proposal to create an International Centre for Cultural Diversity, Development and Creativity Policies, as a Category 2 Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, in the premises of the Villa Ocampo reflects all of these concerns, while fully preserving this important  element of Argentina’s national heritage,” continued Irina Bokova.

Following a resolution () of the 195 UNESCO Members States gathered at the 37th session of the General Conference, the Executive Board of the Organization has been asked to examine, and if deemed appropriate, to approve, the at its 194th session (2-15 April 2014).
