Water in the post-2015 development agenda - Have your voice heard
The Thematic Consultation on Water in the post-2015 development agenda is now open, waiting for your inputs on the website. The water consultation is part of the UN-system led 鈥済lobal dialogue鈥 comprising from 50 to 100 Country Consultations and eleven global Thematic Consultations, among them the one on water.
The water consultation is waiting for your voice to ensure that everyone can have a say. Your ideas are needed to foster a shared vision on key future challenges in water and a new global water goal in the post-2015 development agenda. The consultation will also provide an opportunity to discuss the lessons learned, challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the present Millennium Development Goals on water and sanitation as well as what remains to be done.
The water consultation is divided into two interactive phases:
- Phase I is the global water consultation, which focuses on broad challenges to trigger engagement and discussion. The global consultation will remain online and active for the whole duration of the consultation.
- Phase II focuses on thematic sub-consultations broadly in three areas:
- water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH);
- water resources wastewater management; and
- water quality.
Phase II starts in mid-January and runs up to 3 March 2013. In March the outcome from the different discussions will be summarized into policy recommendations in a final report that will be transmitted to the High-level Panel on Post-2015 appointed by the UN Secretary General.
Various related events will be organized to feed into the water consultation and stimulate the on-line discussions and engagement. You may find information on these events on the webpage of the consultation.
The International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO encourages all IHP National Committees, water-related centres under the auspices of UNESCO, and UNESCO water-related Chairs to actively participate in the Thematic Consultation on Water in the framework of the post-2015 development agenda. We invite you to actively engage in the consultation and are counting on your outreach support. Please get the word out to your networks about upcoming discussions and possibilities to engage.
