UNESCO Jakarta in collaboration with  the Association of Indonesian Municipalities (APEKSI) has conducted a webinar on Protecting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities during the COVID-19 Pandemic on 18 August 2020. This webinar served as a platform to discuss national and local policies enacted in the context of COVID-19 that have a significant impact on persons with disabilities and on their rights. It brought together 136 participants from the Indonesian Network of Mayors for Inclusive-Cities, the representatives of the Indonesian Disability Association (PPDI), Indonesian Association for Women with Disability (HWDI), as well as other partners in the government and civil society. The webinar gave an opportunity for the Mayors and the other participants to exchange best practices that have proven to be effective in safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities from COVID-19 related risks.

Contributing to the attainment of SDGs 10 and 16, the webinar highlighted the need for closer engagement with the persons with disabilities and their organization by the local authorities, to ensure up-to-date data and evidence for effective delivery of social assistance related to COVID-19.
