UNESCO to build skills of local radio correspondents in news production
UNESCO Office in Dar es Salaam, under its 鈥Empowering Local Radios with ICTs for the Promotion of Rural Citizens鈥 Participation in Democratic Discourse and Development鈥 project, will carry out capacity building sessions in news production to local radio correspondents.
The objective of the sessions is to equip local radio correspondents with skills in designing and production of quality news bulletins and programmes.
The sessions, slated for five days, will enable participants to enhance their skills in basic news writing, reporting and editing quality news and programmes on issues of local concern thus contribute towards sustainable development in Tanzania.
Specifically, the capacity building sessions are also meant to support local radios correspondents to feed project鈥檚 supported radios with local news and testimonies.
The sessions will be conducted in Arusha and Dodoma for five days from 17 鈥 21 August 2020, and 24 鈥 28 August 2020 respectively.
Furthermore, the 40 participating local radios correspondents will participate in the mentorship programme immediately after the training.
In Tanzania, UNESCO through funding from the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) supports 25 community radios and the Network of Community Media in Tanzania, (TADIO), an entity with 35 members comprising of 34 community radios and the Pemba Press Club.
The support is meant to ensure that people in Tanzania, especially the poor, women and girls, have the capacity to make informed decisions on issues that affect their daily lives based on access to relevant, culturally appropriate, gender responsive accurate information and knowledge.
Community radios to benefit from the sessions with their regions in brackets are: Sengerema FM (Mwanza), Mazingira FM (Mara), Kahama FM (Shinyanga), Storm FM (Geita), Uvinza FM (Kigoma). Others are ORS FM (Manyara), Loliondo FM (Arusha), Boma Hai FM (Kilimanjaro), Pangani FM (Tanga) and Mpanda FM (Mpanda).
