UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Abdur Rauf Alamgir in India

I condemn the abduction and killing of Abdur Rauf Alamgir. I urge the authorities to investigate about his murder and to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice.

The body of Indian journalist Abdur Rauf Alamgir was found on 26 June in the Kulsi River near the city of Boko in the state of Assam. The journalist went missing two days before his body was found. According to local media sources, he was reportedly abducted near his home in Boko.
Alamgir was working for the online news portal TNL at the time of his death.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the and the Issue of Impunity.
